For the duration of the “Middle East Airlines” exhibition half of one of the walls has been painted black and holds the work “Object Abstraction”. This work is the result of the composition within the ongoing story of the accumulation of things Eastern Mediterranean by Tayfun Serttaş shown in the format of an archeological museum layout. According to the artist archeological finds – nicked goods – from such diverse cities as Istanbul, Cairo, Bam, Beirut, Aleppo, Bodrum and Shiraz, are being essembled as “an exhibition alienating itself within an exhibition”. In this parallel space, the propositions that are the resources to this exhibition – rather than a single work of art – are a representation of things which have been chosen and torn away from their environments. As a meeting space between a finished work of art and the artist’s studio, which determines the practice of his art, “Object Abstraction” can be seen as the ultimate reference to the exhibition.
